⏤ Internationally exhibited speculative project questioning humanity’s ties to living entities through a digital Library of Scents, exploring the liminal space between sensual and digital worlds.

“Breath is a temporary pact of volatile exchange between the animal and plant kingdoms.” The Department of Culture for Breath

What? AuraForest is a digital library of lost scents. It explores a speculative future where humans are losing their sense of smell — and with it, their physical memory of belonging. Through five audiovisual scent capsules, the project reconstructs the invisible biochemical conversations once shared between plants, fungi, bacteria, insects, and the Scots pine.

How? Using olfactory imagination, neuroaesthetic mechanisms, and multisensory design, AuraForest translates forest scents into frequencies, colour palettes, and sound. Each capsule becomes a fragment of a vanished ecosystem — a digital echo of breath, smell, and species.

Why? AuraForest is both an archive and a provocation. It asks what remains when sensory connection exists only within a digital vacuum, and what it might mean to preserve nonhuman stories for future generations. At its core, the project invites audiences to rebuild empathy with other living entities and to sense the forest as an active voice in a shared ecology.

Created as part of Kamila Iżykowicz’s design futures practice, AuraForest blends speculative ecology, multisensory storytelling, and regenerative imagination to explore how we might care for the living world — even in loss.
