The bird that couldn't sing the future
⏤ A short story presented as a video-audiobook, part of the FOODSCAPES: For Regenerative Futures project for Waitrose and Leckford Estate.
What? This story, inspired by research on food systems transformation, explores pressing challenges such as biodiversity loss, food waste, human disconnection from nature, and multigenerational justice. Presented as a children’s book, it addresses these issues in an accessible way for diverse audiences, offering a call to action for the future of food systems.
How? The narrative follows a young bird and amplifies non-human perspectives, with nature as a co-creator. Grounded in research and collaboration, the project inspired Waitrose's “Farming for Nature” initiative and delivered a symbolic artefact—a loaf of bread.
Why? Designed to foster cross-departmental participation, the project strengthened futures literacy across Food Innovation, Ethics, Sustainability, and Farming teams at the John Lewis Partnership and was also used by Saatchi & Saatchi agency for broader outreach.
