8 steps futuring
I follow an 8-steps futuring process, which I developed while working with creative and non-creative stakeholders across disciplines and industries:
-
Co-creating the Brief: expanding the project scope by orienting the brief toward future perspectives, engaging stakeholders through examples from design and futuring disciplines.
-
Research: design research, referencing internal materials and external knowledge.
-
Changing Perspectives: Using design sprints, shifting stakeholders' perspectives through predesigned tools - exercises like Applying Different Lenses and building visual definitions.
-
Participatory Design: inviting experts to contribute to ideation, resulting in unique creative outcomes.
-
Regenerative Design: focusing on challenges and opportunities (like multigenerational justice and regenerative agriculture), using speculative design and storytelling to catalyse change.
-
Creative Outcomes: choice of creative directions aligned with project goals, such as writing children's books addressing eco-anxiety, and employed techniques like creative writing, storyboarding, illustration, animations, graphic design, video editing.
-
Feedback Loop: testing the creative outcomes with stakeholders, adapting based on feedback to finalise the project.
-
Sharing: The project reimagined the communication campaign, shifting from achievements to future-focused themes. Stakeholders valued creativity and mind-stretching approaches.
